The Uprising Reading Guide

Green Lantern: Uprising

Overview:

The Uprising is a DC Comics crossover event from 2014, primarily running through the Green Lantern and Green Lantern Corps titles. The storyline is written by Robert Venditti and Van Jensen, with art from Billy Tan and Bernard Chang. It focuses on the conflict between the Green Lantern Corps and the Durlans, a race of shape-shifters who are intent on overthrowing the Corps and spreading chaos across the universe.

Hal Jordan, John Stewart, and other Green Lanterns lead the charge as they struggle to maintain order. They are also joined by the Star Sapphire and other allies. The primary antagonists, the Durlans, are a formidable threat due to their ability to impersonate any individual, making it difficult for the Lanterns to trust anyone, even among their own ranks.

At the time of publication, The Uprising received a mixed reception. Some fans enjoyed the storyline for its fast pace and stakes, but others felt it fell short in terms of emotional depth and character development. Critically, the event didn’t make major waves but still maintained a strong following among Green Lantern enthusiasts. The arc helped solidify Venditti’s tenure on the Green Lantern series, even if it didn’t break new ground.

For crossover and significant events, I typically only read the main story the first time I encounter it. Trying to read all of the tie-ins with the story tends to make them increasingly convoluted and are not crucial to the main narrative. However, I think they are important to read, as many series-shifting plotlines can happen.

For the tie-in issues, I only read them as they come up in the reading guide that I am working through. This can become problematic because the tie-in issues are not always included in collected editions of the event. So you may need to hunt for them.
