Overview:
The Sinestro Corps War is a major Green Lanter storyline in the DC Comics universe, primarily published in 2007. Written by Geoff Johns, with art by Ivan Reis and other contributors, the arc explores the conflict between the Green Lantern Corps and the Sinestro Corps, led by the former Green Lantern, Sinestro. The story is notable for its exploration of fear as a weapon, contrasting with the Green Lanterns’ willpower.
The central hero is Hal Jordan, but he is supported by the other Earth Green Lanterns and the rest of the Green Lantern Corps. They strive to combat the rising threat posed by the Sinestro Corps, which is composed of villains and fear-driven characters who wield the yellow power rings that tap into fear.
The storyline receives positive feedback from both critics and fans, praised for its character development, intense action sequences, and emotional depth. It significantly impacts the Green Lantern mythos, setting the stage for future events in the DC Universe. The Sinestro Corps War is often regarded as a defining moment in the modern era of DC Comics.

For crossover and significant events, I typically only read the main story the first time I encounter it. Trying to read all of the tie-ins with the story tends to make them increasingly convoluted and are not crucial to the main narrative. However, I think they are important to read, as many series-shifting plotlines can happen.
For the tie-in issues, I only read them as they come up in the reading guide that I am working through. This can become problematic because the tie-in issues are not always included in collected editions of the event. So you may need to hunt for them.
