Overview:
Green Lantern/New Gods: Godhead is a DC Comics crossover event published in 2014. Written by key creators Robert Venditti, Van Jensen, and Charles Soule, the event features artwork from various artists, including Billy Tan and Ethan Van Sciver.
The story centers around a cosmic conflict between the Green Lantern Corps and the New Gods. The New Gods, led by Highfather, believe that acquiring the emotional spectrum wielded by the Lanterns is the key to defeating Darkseid. This leads to a clash between the two groups, with Hal Jordan and the Lanterns facing off against formidable foes like Orion and Highfather himself. The Green Lantern Corps tries to defend its members and the power rings from being taken over by the New Gods.
Fans received Godhead with mixed reactions. Some appreciated the event’s high-stakes plot and cosmic scale, while others found the pacing inconsistent. The art and character designs were generally praised, but some felt the story leaned heavily on action without diving deep into character development. It was seen as an ambitious crossover but didn’t quite reach the heights of other Green Lantern events.

- Collects: Green Lantern/New Gods: Godhead #1, Green Lantern vol. 5 #35-37, Green Lantern Corps vol. 3 #35-37, Green Lantern: New Guardians #35-37, Red Lanterns #35-37, Sinestro #6-8 and Green Lantern vol. 5 Annual #3
For crossover and significant events, I typically only read the main story the first time I encounter it. Trying to read all of the tie-ins with the story tends to make them increasingly convoluted and are not crucial to the main narrative. However, I think they are important to read, as many series-shifting plotlines can happen.
For the tie-in issues, I only read them as they come up in the reading guide that I am working through. This can become problematic because the tie-in issues are not always included in collected editions of the event. So you may need to hunt for them.
