I Killed Adolf Hitler is a short, deadpan comedy that was very entertaining. It is all about a Hitman that gets sent back in time to kill Hitler. During the hit, something goes wrong, and Hitler escapes to the present by stealing the time machine. The Hitman then shows up in old age to try again to kill Hitler but misses. The rest of the story is spent trying to find and kill Hitler in the present. What I found most intriguing is that framed behind a ridiculous premise is a nice little love story. While searching for Hitler, the Hitman falls in love — ironically with the girl he had just dumped at the beginning. Eventually, she falls in love with him, waits 50 years, and uses the time machine again to kill Hitler successfully. They live out their final days together.

Love Story
I Killed Hitler art by Jason

I thought the underlying tone of the story put a lot into very few words. The art is simple but conveys so much emotion. Most of the story’s impact takes place in what is not said. The love story takes place in what is not displayed. You could feel the pain and loneliness jump from the pages. I also appreciated the revelation at the end when she admits to trying to kill the Hitman after he initially broke up with her. But given everything they have been through, he forgives her.

While this is not the type of comic I typically seek out, I think it was very well written, and I understand why it has such good reviews. It is definitely something to read at least once. 3-stars.
