Crisis on Infinite Earths was an incredible undertaking to reset the DC universe and is successful in that endeavor. It is an important starting point for most stories and something every DC fan needs to read at least once.
The multiverse concept is something that has been around a while and is very common in comics today. It was nice to see that instead of rationalizing more discrepancies by extending the multiverse, DC was able to simplify by collapsing into a single universe.
Main Story
The main crisis story can be a bit overwhelming at first, with so many characters — especially if you are just getting started with DC. That being said, I that this is one of the better cross-over events. Unlike many future significant events, this one has a story that makes sense and is reasonably easy to follow.
I also really liked that Wolfman took some risks and made permanent changes, such as killing off Supergirl. It was also interesting to see superheroes and villains coming together to fight a common enemy.
At times the story does become a bit much, especially with some of the older characters that I was not familiar with. But as I dive deeper into the DC universe, I appreciate this story more. I think that is will be better on subsequent reads.
Tie-Ins
For the most part, I have not read many of the tie-ins yet. The few I have were good reads and set up the changes needed for the stories to reboot.
Overall, I rate Crisis at 3-stars. The core story is something I will come back to in a few years, and the Tie-ins I will catch up on as I start new sets of characters.
