Overview:
Behold! The Millennium Giants is a 1998 DC Comics crossover storyline, notable for its collaboration between several writers and artists, including Ron Marz, Stuart Immonen, and Tom Grummett. This arc appears across multiple titles like Superman and Aquaman. It centers around Earth-threatening entities known as the Millennium Giants, ancient beings who arise during a cosmic event with the power to reshape the planet. These beings serve as the main antagonists, while the story’s heroes, including Superman, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman, band together to stop them.
Released at the tail end of the ’90s, this event follows the tradition of large-scale superhero crossovers but received mixed reactions. Fans were excited by the concept and the high-stakes threat, but some felt the story lacked depth or fresh ideas. Critically, the arc was seen as somewhat formulaic, relying heavily on spectacle and massive destruction without the narrative complexity of other DC events. The art, however, was widely praised, with the towering, mythical appearance of the Millennium Giants making a strong impression.

Best Way To Read:
Not Collected
For crossover and significant events, I typically only read the main story the first time I encounter it. Trying to read all of the tie-ins with the story tends to make them increasingly convoluted and are not crucial to the main narrative. However, I think they are important to read, as many series-shifting plotlines can happen.
For the tie-in issues, I only read them as they come up in the reading guide that I am working through. This can become problematic because the tie-in issues are not always included in collected editions of the event. So you may need to hunt for them.
