Overview:
Amazons Attack! is a DC Comics event from 2007, written by Will Pfeifer with artwork by Pete Woods. The arc spans six issues and explores the Amazons’ relationship with the rest of the world, particularly the U.S. government.
The story primarily focuses on Wonder Woman (Diana), Queen Hippolyta, and the Amazon warriors as they engage in a conflict against the U.S. military. A mysterious force influences events, pushing the Amazons toward an all-out war, which brings various DC heroes, including Batman and Superman, into the fold. On the adversarial side, certain villains play a manipulative role behind the scenes, driving the Amazons to their aggressive stance.
Reception for the series was negative. Critics and fans pointed out issues with pacing, plot development, and character motivations, especially for the Amazons and Wonder Woman. Some felt the event did not live up to its potential, with minor praise to the artwork and action sequences.
Though not a standalone masterpiece, Amazons Attack! ties into broader events in the DC universe, with repercussions felt in Wonder Woman’s character arc. For many fans, the storyline remains a controversial chapter in the Amazon mythology.

For crossover and significant events, I typically only read the main story the first time I encounter it. Trying to read all of the tie-ins with the story tends to make them increasingly convoluted and are not crucial to the main narrative. However, I think they are important to read, as many series-shifting plotlines can happen.
For the tie-in issues, I only read them as they come up in the reading guide that I am working through. This can become problematic because the tie-in issues are not always included in collected editions of the event. So you may need to hunt for them.
